Formica Report Annex 65: Statement of an Iraqi who became a Detainee with Family re: Experience as a Detainee

Sworn statement by a Iraqi national who became a detainee at Abu Ghraib with member of his family. He claims that his brother was with the Saddam regime and when he went to visit his sister in Iraq he was taken in to custody as a detainee and held for 30 days, and then to "the old [redacted] airport" for an additional 24 days. While in custody, the detainee states that "the Americans were very nice" but that he was beaten by two Iraqis until he was "bleeding from [his] nose, mouth and ears." He is specific in stating that at no time was he abused, nor did he witness abuse by U.S. forces. The Iraqis were abusive.

- Sworn statement by an Abu Ghraib detainee alleging abuse by Iraqis at an unknown location (possibly in the Adhamiya district) for a period of about 18 days during March 2004. Detainee states that "the Americans were very nice" but that he was beaten by two Iraqis until he was "bleeding from [his] nose, mouth and ears." States that a linguist "came in and put the bag on my face, and put a stick in my bottom," and that a dog was brought in "to scratch me." States, "For six or seven days they beat me up and [redacted] hit me in the head with the butt of a gun.... I had electric wires put on me, but I was never electrocuted, and I was hit with an antenna-like stick." Detainee states that he was given only one piece of bread per day to eat.
