- On June 12, 2003, a few hours after an attempted escape by a detainee at Abu Ghraib, 30-40 detainees began throwing rocks and tent poles from their compounds at three interior guards. To avoid injury, the facility guards fired 11 times into the crowd, which effectively dispersed the crowd and eliminated the threat. However, one detainee was left dead and seven detainees were injured.
